Another Reason Not To Do Anything

We're all at once in 90+ weather here.  Yesterday I decided to embrace it and go for a run.  I was sweating anyway, right?  And if you're going to do something you might as well do it right. 

I drank plenty of water, took my time stretching out, and then headed into the woods.  Kept up a slow trot for about ten minutes until a headache started to set in, then walked for the rest of an hour.  It still felt like an accomplishment.

Strangely enough the bugs weren't out yet.  Mosquitoes and flies could have made the walk miserable, but apparently it's too early or too hot for them to be out in force, yet. 

The 17 year Cicadas, though--they're all over the yard, making a sound like hovering UFOs.  Donna's been feeding them to the pheasants, which love them. 

Today we've been hanging out in the air-conditioned bedroom watching TV, reading, and playing old XBox games.  (I'd forgotten how original and clever Psychonauts was.)  The outside world--the rest of the house, in fact--simply doesn't feel safe.  Including this office, where I thought I'd sit a while and pretend to do some work.  And smoke a pipe, since I'm not going to taint the recirculated air of the bedroom with tobacco smoke.  Then it's back to huddle in the bedroom, like those folks in the attic of the Beetlejuice house.

Man, do I miss the city.  People-watching in the summer was a blast, the Esplanade and the public gardens were always abloom with something or other, and air-conditioning was never far away.
